What a great week. SDSU gets a #2 seed in the NCCA Tournament, I am going to the Computer Using Educator's Conference in Palm Springs, and . . .my students get to catch up on all of their work, right? Based on the amount of stress that permeated University and Academic Halls last week, I'll take this as a sign that you all need some time to catch up. What I can tell you all is that the longer you wait to complete your work, the further you distance yourself from the explanation of how to complete it. Experience tells me that most people do not like to read the written instructions, so your stress level get to the point of frustration, then your fun meter for technology plummets and somewhere in the universe a person weeps uncontrollable for no apparent reason. . . .Okay, maybe it's not that drastic, but it could happen. Keep the positive energy flowing by keeping up with your work.
I will be in
UH 271 today from around 4pm until 8pm to help anyone with any assignment that they need help with. If you are in the Thursday class and need to
make up for an absence, come to either today's class or Monday, March 28 to make up for it. If you are in Thursday's class and are behind, come to class. If you are in Monday's class and need to make up for an absence, you can attend both today and the 28th.
I have Re-edited the Monday class's TaskStream narratives. . .I will work individually with those who hadn't edited in class. I will try to get to the Thursday class re-edits this week.
This Week's Question: What is one of your most memorable teacher movies?
One of my most memorable teacher movies is Pay it Forward. It makes me cry everytime, and it is amazing how one teacher can inspire one student to do so much.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lindsey, Pay It Forward is a powerful teacher movie. It's sad and inspiring at the same time!
ReplyDeleteI love Pay It Forward as well! That is such an amazing movie. I also really like the Freedom Writers. What an inspiring movie. Every time I watch it I want to be in a classroom asap.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite teacher movie is Lean on Me
ReplyDeleteMy most memorable teaching movie is "Dead Poets Society". Loved it. Honorable mention teaching movie is "Summer School" from the 80's.
ReplyDeleteI love Dangerous Minds. Ghetto? Perhaps, but it's a tear jerker and based on a true story. "I'll have the chicken...a whole one." Best line in the movie.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad, I actually dont have one...but it looks I will be watching "Pay It Forward" very soon :o)
ReplyDeleteI'm on board with Nathan, Summer School was an awesome movie!
ReplyDeleteThe Freedom Writers
ReplyDeleteThe Great Debaters.
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to keep it old school and funny and go with Billy Madison
ReplyDeletePay It Forward was a great movie, but I'd have to say that Freedom Writers takes the lead for me.
ReplyDeleteOctober Sky :)
ReplyDeleteHoosiers, I like the motivation and team work in the movie.
ReplyDeleteFast Times at Ridgemont High.
ReplyDelete"Aloha, I am Mr. Hand."
"Hey bud, what's your problem?"
Dead Poet's Society, I would have liked to have a teacher like that back in the day, pushed the limits and got his students to think outside the box. =) Great Movie!
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I don't have a teacher movie. But I will have to sway that one that I remember the most that will be great for the teacher movie is "Pay it Forward." This movie is great and I think it teaches a lot of good information. I love it, and would watch millions of times if I could.

ReplyDeleteI am not a movie watcher. The only movie I can think of is Dangerous Minds with Michelle Pfeiffer.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favorite teacher's movies since I really don't watch movies/t.v. and when I do once in awhile I don't even remember the title. Although, I will probably watch "Pay it Forward" since it's so popular.
ReplyDeleteI like comedies (but am now curious about the movies listed above)! Favorites that come to mind are "Election" and "Ferris Beuhler's Day Off."
ReplyDeleteFavorite teacher movie? I would have to say is "Stand and Deliver" with Edward James Olmos and Lou Diamond Phillips..."A negative times a negative equals a positive...again! A negative times a negative equals a positive". Thanks to this movie I will always remember the basic algebra rules. FYI, I also used to have a teenage crush on Lou Diamond Phillips. I blame the movie "La Bamba" :)
ReplyDeleteI have 2 favourites;"Matilda" is my first..I love that movie still, it's just so cute. "Akeelah and the Bee" is my second one, so touching:)
ReplyDeleteI have many favorite teacher movies!! My top two are "Stand & Deliver" and "Freedom Writers" tehy are my top two because I can relate to the students being Latina.
ReplyDeleteI have to say "A Beautiful Mind", "Pay It Forward" was really good at it's time.
ReplyDeleteI must agree with Lynanne, "Ferris Beuhler's Day Off" is GREAT! I was just watching it the other day. I remember watching FB's Day Off when I'd be home "sick" from school, lol.

ReplyDeleteKindergarten Cop, it's a classic that everyone is overlooking.
ReplyDeleteMine is Butterfly, a movie that reflects the education system of Spain in 1936. I like it because it has a lot of details about traditions, customs, and it is also related with the circumstances of the Spanish Civil War.
ReplyDeleteRemember the Titans was definitely one of better ones I have seen. Very sad to watch of that time but very impacting as well.
ReplyDeleteI really liked Mona Lisa Smile- just had to watch it for another class

ReplyDeleteThe Dead Poets Society and Matilda.
ReplyDeleteWaiting for Superman is my favorite teacher movie because it depicts the despair that our educational system is in today. It inspires me and hopefully I'll make a difference when I'm a teacher!

ReplyDeleteMy most memorable teacher movie was "The Dead Poets Society" that i saw in my high school English class.
ReplyDeleteStand and Deliver... Great story about what the difference of what the expectation of success can do.
ReplyDeleteI dont think I have seen any teacher movie that stands out above all other teacher movies... Maybe I have not seen a movie about a teacher at all....

"And cause I was a gazillionaire, and I liked doin it so much, I cut that grass for free."
