Week 15: Ending with the Beginning in Mind!

From Cartoonstock.com
Well, we have reached the end of another semester.  My favorite thing about the end of the semester is to look at the blogs/work of the students who seemed most afraid of this class or technology only to discover that their work is often of the highest quality.  My goal was to teach everyone the value of technology in education as a medium of instruction and to empower the student to have the confidence that she/he could facilitate this type of instruction in the classroom.  I can tell you that I believe that each of you can be that type of teacher if you so choose.  So, for that thank you!

This Week:  On to my least favorite part of the semester: TaskStream ;-)  I would like everyone to take a collective breath, hold it . . .now let it out.  When you are writing your narratives, think about how you would explain to a principal what you created, how you created it, and then discuss why your creation (artifact) meets the NETS-T.  Easy, right?  Anyway, in class this week you will be peer reviewing each others' blogs and completing the emerging technology checklists.  I will be consulting with each of you individually on your TaskStream narratives and give you feedback in the moment as to how complete the narratives are.  If you haven't finished writing your narratives, you will spend the majority of the class time writing.

Please don't forget to complete the online professor evaluation.  I definitely use the feedback I receive to make the course better for students!

This Week's Question:  What is the best thing you will take away from this course?

  2. This course was very fun and I learned alot of techniques on how to use and incorporate technology anywhere. There were so many things I learned, so I would have to say the overall best thing I learned through this course was basically how easy it is to incorporate technology.I am excited to incorporate what I have learned in this class to my future classroom.

  3. Despite the fact that our NETS was my least favorite assignment, it’s one of the best thing I can take away from this course. It has helped me understand how to incorporate technology with teaching. Knowing how to use the technology out there is one thing, having to teach using it in a helpful manner is another. I feel a lot more comfortable with my NETS now than I did in the beginning.

  4. I think that this whole class was the best thing I will take away from this course. Learning all this new technology has made me confident in using even more technology. I feel like I can do more and try new things without being afraid. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and I can;t wait to incorporate technology into my classroom! :)

  5. I will take a lot of information with me with the use of technology in the classroom. I was already pretty proficient with technology, however this gave me more useful knowledge to use later on in the future. The biggest thing I will take from this class is the use for creating a PLN!

  6. I think the one thing that I will take away from this class is not being afraid to find and learn about new technology, and to implement and apply that technology to daily use. Before this class, the only technology I used was e-mail, cell phone and usually whatever programs came with the computer I had. Now, I know that there are many great, useful, and FREE products out there.

  7. This course has taught me a lot of great tools to take away and to continue to use. Learning about a lot of new programs was very effective and has sold me on using all these tools available on the 'cloud.' I will also be able to use these tools as a speech pathologist and implement them in a variety of ways not just those we applied them to in this course.

  8. I will use a lot of the technology skills taught in class. I have already used a Prezi to present to another one of my EDUC classes. I have started using Twitter to communicate, and I have also used iMovie to create an assignment. So I have already started using all these great things! The most important thing I have learned from this class is that technology is not scary, and can actually be pretty fun!

  9. Professor Heil's way of teaching. (Cue people thinking I'm a suck up)

Seriously though, I really respond positively to educators who show a passion for their work. I'm going to take away the style in which he taught and how fun he made each session. I thought Professor Heil did a great job balancing the information he presented with a good amount of humor mixed in. Had the professor been mundane with a handout of what we needed to accomplish in the semester; I probably would've tanked harder than the Lakers. (Fun fact, Jason Terry- UA Alumn)

Long story short, I'll take away Professor Heil's love for his career and hope that I can inspire future students the way he inspired us.

  11. I think the best thing that I am taking away from class is my eagerness to use technology in both the classroom and my everyday life. I feel comfortable exploring new forms and uses of technology. Oddly, I feel more organized. No more headaches is a plus as well!

  12. I have learned that technology can be of great use if you know how to incorporate it into your classroom. My hope is that I can use the tools I have gained in this class to further the success of my own future classroom.

  13. I think the best thing that I will take away from this course is the knowledge that I have gained about technology. How to create a blog, incorporate all different digital tools in the classroom, as well as where to get great information from, like twitter. This whole class has been a great experience.

  14. I will take a lot away from this class, but I think the most beneficial thing i learned was about all of Google's gadgets and applications that are available free of charge. I think this will be very helpful in my future career. Also drop box is a really cool tool I plan to use in the future.

  15. I will take away the idea of using these resources in ways I wouldn't have normally thought of in the classroom. I wouldn't have normally thought about using social networking tools within the class, now I now there are a multitude of ways it can be done, and I know how to look for more now too.

  16. Everything that I have learned in this class, I will incorporate in my own classroom and future learning. All of the resources, twitter, blog, etc. have just been a eye opening to how much I can truly learn about technology and incorporate it in daily life.
I think that my new favorite tool is now Twitter, though I rarely tweet anything :-)

  17. I have learned a lot in this class! I hope to integrate all the tools I have learned into my classroom! I enjoyed using iMovie and creating a newsletter that I can make for my future classroom.

  18. what i take away from this semester is the thought that is involved with getting into and succeeding in the credentialing program. The task stream TPE's and NETS-T standards were enough for me :)

  19. I will take away the matter of being willing to explore new technology, not being afraid. Before this class I had the iMovie program on my Mac book pro but I never used it because I felt intimidated. Now I can tell James Cameron to watch out.

  20. I will take away a whole lot from this class. All the technology and how to access resources about technology is probably the best. Also, all the ideas and creative stuff you can do with technology for sure!

  22. I learned that twitter and diigo are good ways to find teaching resources. I'll definitely keep using these when I am a real teacher.

  23. The best thing I will take away from this class is that technology is NOT as scary as I originally thought!! In the beginning of the semester I was completely intimidated by this class. Now, although I am still slightly hesitant, I have explored different technological avenues and even upgraded to an iphone!! (Which I'm absolutely obsessed with)

  24. The thing I will take away most from this class is the PLN. Twitter and Diigo were great ways to find new resources than just using a regular search engine.

  25. Although this class was frustrating as hell I learned a ton! I absolutely love Prezi. I will never use powerpoint again it is so boring in comparison. I also really learned that there are a ton of resources out there on the web to help you be a better teacher. all you have to do is explore!

  26. I will take away alot of information on how to incorporate technology in class. I think the best part was imovie..I loved it and will use again for sure....I really enjoyed this class aloooooooot.

  27. I can honestly say I have learned more in this class then any other class I have taken in my entire life! Everything I have learned has been a new experience. I think dropbox, excel and blogging are the most useful tools I have learned to work. I know I will use all this material as a future educator! :) Thank you so much for a great semester!

  28. The best thing I will take away from this class is the ways in which you can use digital tools to enhance a classroom and enhance student learning.

  29. A huge boost in my technology-based confidence! I have already guided 2 of my former technology mentors (my husband and my cousin) in tech areas they had not yet experienced. They were impressed... Oh, the power of knowledge!

  30. I was afraid of this class at the beginning because I am not really good with technology, but after the semester I think I’m able to introduce technology in my class. Now I regard technology as a useful tool to help my students learn and develop! And this is for sure the best thing I will take away from this course…

  31. Being able to explore different media to interact with students and peers. Also using these to attract and engage students.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Everything! It was all valuable information to transfer to my personal and professional life. I am going to use the IMovie to create a father's day movie for my husband showing the growth of my daughter so far. Now I only need to purchase a Mac...

  33. All of it! I will take the new programs and applications that we learned to use, and I will use them with other classes and as a SLP if applicable. I enjoyed it all! I like that I know now even more so how to expand my PLN, which will definitely be useful as a SLP. Thanks for everything! I know I was your favorite LOL ;-).

  34. Technology can be overwhelming at times and can make people frustrated when they don't understand it. I have never honestly been technologically challenged before taking this class but have learned through my frustrations that no matter how challenged I may feel, it is worth it to figure it out and work it out because the end result will not only benefit me but will benefit my classroom.

  35. I learned a great deal throughout the course of this course. I learned how useful Google docs can be,and the importance of having a PLN because prior to the class I was really skeptical about joining networks such as twitter.

  36. The best thing that I will take away from this class is all that I have learned about using a Mac computer. I have owned a mac for the last four years and you taught me things about mac's that I have never learned before.

  38. i can't really say there is any one thing that I will take away from this class that is better than another. As a parent of a child with special needs I have decided to home school for the next few years. So, most of the programs and skills I learned will be useful and used as learning tools in my home.
    Thanks

  39. The best thing? Everything! I really like blogging, embedding, and learning how we can use word to make a classroom newsletter. That was fun! Thanks.
